DANVILLE - Danville police are investigating the death of a Danville resident found lying on the street Sunday afternoon.

Director of Public Safety Larry Thomason said police were called to the area of Lape and Fairweight Streets at about 5:30 PM.

A man walking the area heard what he described as someone groaning and discovered the individual.  Police and Medix personnel were uncertain as to cause of injury but the man may have been shot.

The victim, a 19 year old male, was transported to Presence Hospital in Danville where he was pronounced deceased a short time later.  The Vermilion County coroner will release information about the man after notification of next of kin.

No one is in custody at this time and Danville police are asking for anyone with information about this incident to contact them or Crimestoppers at 446-TIPS.
