CHAMPAIGN -- Breastfeeding in public seems to be taboo but a new initiative could put an end to that.

It's called breastfeeding friendly practices. It gives moms the ok to nurse in certain businesses.

Only a dozen have signed up so far. But we talked to an owner who said it was a no brainer.

"I'm very surprised that more haven't jumped on the wagon with this," Amorasak said.

Gaylene Amorasak owns Natural Gourmet. when she heard about the new program, she jumped at the chance.

Amorasak has three kids. She nursed all of them and wishes she would've had a public place to feel comfortable.

"I did feel self conscience sometimes about people looking at me when I would be in public nursing but well-covered. I would figure that people were looking at me as doing something inappropriate. That was bothersome."

She hung this breastfeeding friendly plaque on her wall to let all moms know, they're welcome.

"If anybody has any hesitation, that they feel comfortable somewhere," Amorasak said.

It's something customer Anna Bervelt appreciates.

"I think it's overdue," said customer Anna Bervelt.

If owners put this up, customers are allowed to breastfeed and employees are given time to nurse and store milk.

"Women and men power both. Because it's all so easy on the husband if your wife is happy and if you are able to breastfeed...you have a happy child," Bervelt said.
