Updated: December 6, 2012
CHICAGO -- State Senator Donne Trotter was released from custody after posting bond on a felony charge. Trotter, considered a serious contender to replace Jesse Jackson, Jr., was arrested at O'Hare Airport Wednesday.
Police say he tried bringing a loaded gun onto a plane. TSA agents found it in his carry on as he was going through security.
Trotter is licensed to carry a weapon. He told police he has the gun for his job as a security officer and forgot it was in his bag. The Chicago democrat hasn't said if this changes his plans to run in the special election.
