TV tax?

SPRINGFIELD -- Lawmakers are considering a tax making it more expensive to watch TV if you have a satellite dish on your home. It's something lawmakers were expected to vote on this week.

It was up for debate in committee early Tuesday, but lawmakers didn't discuss it. The bill would tack on an extra 5% to those with satellite TV. Lawmakers want to put the money into the education fund.

But, TV watchers say they can't afford the extra cost, especially in rural areas where cable isn't even an option. Providers say it's unfair and will do more harm than good.

The increase is in the hands of house lawmakers now. Since they didn't discuss it Tuesday, there's no chance it will be voted on later this week.

It could resurface in January though, right before lame ducks move out. This tax has already gone through the senate, passing it on the very last day of session in May.
