CHAMPAIGN -- The city could be one step closer to having a new city manager. At Tuesday's council meeting, a consensus was reached to negotiate an agreement with the sole internal candidate, Dorothy David.

David is currently the assistant city manager. Any agreement reached will be considered by the city council at a future meeting. While the city and David are negotiating, a search for outside candidates to fill the position will be suspended.

Whoever is named to the position will replace outgoing manager Steve Carter. Carter will retire at the end of March.
