SPRINGFIELD -- The Abraham Lincoln Capital Airport is flying high when it comes to bringing in money for the economy. A new report ranks it 4th statewide and first downstate. It found the airport generates more than a half a billion dollars for the economy.

Executive Director Mark Hanna says all that money pouring in isn't just from flyers, it also comes from businesses renting space. He says they're proud to be an economic driver for the area. He says having a high rank comes with a lot of perks, especially when they're trying to get airline carriers to offer more services.

So how did other airports around downstate stack up? Springfield took first, followed by Moline, then Peoria, Bloomington/Normal, and Champaign-Urbana.

The state reviewed all 116 commercial airports for this economic impact report.
