CHAMPAIGN -- It's something we've been hearing a lot of lately, another mugging near the UI campus. This one happened in the 200-block of South Wright Street.

This type of crime has increased. To gauge that, UI police look at how many crime alerts they've issued. So far this year, they've had 11 alerts about robberies and armed robberies. Last year, they only sent out eight.

It doesn't include cases around campus, like the one Monday night. Police say the victim was going into his apartment on South Wright Street when a suspect approached him, implied he had a weapon and demanded money. The suspect then punched the victim in the mouth and took off with his wallet.

UI police say they're aware of the situation and say people need to be aware of their surroundings adding, the more eyes and ears, the better. Authorities don't think all the cases are related since descriptions of the suspects vary. A final piece of common sense advice, make sure you're not letting yourself be an easy target.
