Veto session winding down

SPRINGFIELD -- Veto session wraps up this week and lawmakers still have a lot to do. Some say, little will get done.

The senate has already canceled veto session on Thursday, so the chamber will only meet for two days this week. As for the house, that's still up in the air.

Experts say, because of this, and the fact that there's a lame-duck session in January, bigger issues are probably going to be put on hold. It includes things like pension reform and gambling expansion.

It's not uncommon and is actually a strategic move. It's because lawmakers need fewer votes in January.

It doesn't mean lawmakers won't get anything done this week. They still have to vote on overriding Gvoernor Quinn's vetoes, and they're expected to vote on a couple of other bills, including a proposal to legalize medical marijuana for patients, and another letting illegal immigrants get driver's licenses.
