New deadline for election petitions
Updated: December 4, 2012
The date was selected because of the election calendar, but that deadline was getting a lot of negative feedback. Many were upset about having to make staff work that day, and then dish out holiday pay, arguing they didn't have the money in their budgets.
Lawmakers agreed the date needed to be changed, so they passed a bill to push the deadline back to December 26. Governor Quinn just signed the proposal.
He says the new date will definitely be better, plus it will benefit the candidates. Now, they have an extra two days to collect signatures.
