ST. JOSEPH -- An effort to change the face of politics failed Monday night. BJ Hackler has been the mayor for more than 30 years, but he had a challenger in the republican caucus.

Lexi Hartman is a former village worker and said it was time for a change. More than 100 people were at the municipal building for the vote. It's the first time Hackler has had an opponent in 15 years.

Hackler won the caucus, so his name will appear on the ballot in April. Meanwhile democrats also met but failed to nominate anyone. Hartman can still run as a write-in candidate, but didn't say if she would.
