SPRINGFIELD -- The state treasurer is reminding people about some tax benefits they can take advantage of this month. Dan Rutherford is promoting the Bright Start 529 College Savings Plan.

He says it's the perfect Christmas gift for families. The program allows them to take part in three different tax benefits.

All of them are designed to help rake in extra cash for college tuition. If you want to take advantage of deductions on your 2012 Illinois taxes, contributions need to be made by the end of the month.
