Concealed carry controversy

Updated: December 3, 2012

SPRINGFIELD -- Attorney General Lisa Madigan (D-Illinois) is joining the fight against a measure that would loosen gun restrictions nationwide. The measure would let licensed gun owners conceal their weapons anywhere in the U.S.

In other words, gun rules from your home state would follow you wherever you travel. The problem is, Illinois is the only state that does not allow concealed carry.

That means if it becomes law, a person from Missouri could come to Illinois, carry a concealed gun and not get in trouble. If you are an Illinois resident though, you could not carry a concealed weapon.

The state says it would be too hard to police and would be unsafe. Gun advocates say it is a basic right and is important for self defense.

Illinois is not the only state fighting this bill. Leaders from nine other states including New York and California are also saying no.

Thank you Attorney General Lisa Madigan for fighting concealed weapons in Illinois. There are too many guns in the hands of too many people who are using the guns for too many criminal activities, whether they are licensed gun owners or not. I find it disgusting that innocent people are killed almost daily by licensed guns, such as the movie theater massacre or the shooting of elected officials and innocent citizens in Arizona a few years back. We need LESS guns, not more. We need MORE control of guns, not less. And we definitely do NOT need gun shoot outs in our streets, businesses, schools, churches, etc. - citizens "defending" themselves with guns against guns will only lead to MORE innocent people being killed. The US is long past being the "old West" - less guns, more saved lives.

It is so depressing to see Illinois being the only state not having CCW.What is wrong with these people.Gangs are ruling the cities.I would like to see a post of how many innocent people are killed daily just in Chicago. How can they keep citizens from defendind themselves and ignoring our constitution.I can't write this because it is just to disgusting.
