URBANA -- For the first time in more than 5 years, a landmark opened its doors. More than $1 million went into renovations here at the Landmark Hotel.

But still, less than half of the rooms are open. Hotel management and Urbana City Council say it's a long process that will take time to complete.

Saturday, people toured the hotel's new look. Members on Urbana City Council fought hard to keep it open. They say we have to hold on to our history.

Council member Charlie Smyth says, "We're making slow, steady, forward progress here. In these economic times, it really should be stressed that we're making steady progress here. The hotel is now open. A bank of rooms are now open."

Hotel management hopes to have the rest of the rooms opened in the next six months.
