Cobras named All-Americans

Updated: November 30, 2012
CHAMPAIGN - A pair of Cobra middle hitters, sophomore Shelby Geers (St. Joe-Ogden) and freshman Megan Casagrande (St. Thomas More), have earned All-American honors from the National Junior College Athletic Association. Geers earned 1st Team All-American while Casagrande was named Honorable Mention. The awards recognize the top 30 players at the NJCAA D-2 level.

Geers, who had earlier this fall been named the Region 24 and Mid-West Athletic Conference Player of the Year, followed up a solid freshman year with a breakout sophomore campaign. In addition to leading the team to a 45-8 record and 3rd place finish, Geers finished with the third highest NJCAA D-2 hitting percentage at .450, and was 12th in the country in total kills (495) and blocks (266).

Casagrande picked up Honorable Mention honors after being a First Team All-Region and All-Conference honoree and was also the M-WAC Freshman of the Year. She finished second on the team in kills with 388 and blocks with 179. She also ended the season with a .399 hitting percentage. She will be counted on next season to anchor an experienced squad which will try and win another M-WAC and Regional title along with making a sixth consecutive trip to Nationals.
