URBANA -- A UI student now has stitches and staples in his head after being beaten with a gun Thursday night. He was on his way home from the library when he was attacked.

The attacker took off with the victim's wallet and laptop. WCIA-3's Megan Brilley has more.

A lot of people in Suhak Lee's situation, would shy away from the camera, but he's speaking up for his neighborhood.

"I've had a very good experience living here until yesterday."

Lee has lived in Champaign for years, but what he experienced Thursday, is something he never expected would happen. Lee saw another man walking toward him while he was headed home on Busey Avenue.

"I felt really suspicious, so I just went off to the road, and started walking away from him." But, before he could get far enough away, "he just ran into me and pointed a gun at me."

The man hit Lee on the head with his gun several times and ran off with Lee's laptop.

"I just screamed. I was panicking."

Lee noticed he was surrounded by a pool of blood and called police.

"I'm not angry. It's just very upsetting that there are people like that or worse out there."

It's something Lee's downstairs neighbor knows all too well.

"We were sitting at the table and all of a sudden, we heard this door trying to be opened from the outside."

She and her neighbor called police, but the man was gone.

"I felt safe here up until recently."

Police say recent crime is not something they're taking lightly and patrols are focusing on the area.

"I just don't want anyone else to be hurt ilke me or be threatened. I just don't want this sort of instances to happen to anybody else."

Police say the suspect is a white man in his 20's. He was wearing a black ski mask and blue, checkered jacket.
