Welcome sign makeover

DECATUR -- A piece of history is being retired. It's a sign that has been welcoming people to town for decades.

If you have ever been here, you have probably seen it, you just might not have realized it. When you come into town by the airport, you are greeted by a retro-style welcome sign.

City officials say it's outdated so they are getting rid of it. No one knows exactly how old it is, but many say it's too important to trash.

It'll find a new home along the lakefront. The vintage sign will be replaced with an electronic one this spring.
