Rash of car break-ins
Updated: November 29, 2012
SPRINGFIELD -- A different kind of shopping near White Oaks Mall is ripping off car owners. More than 15 cars have been burglarized in the last week or so.
Police say most of the cars were unlocked near the mall or in the surrounding neighborhoods. Matt Goulet with Springfield Police says someone is stealing cash, cd's and small electronics. It's happening after midnight but before four in the morning.
One witness said a black man in his early 20's, 5' 9" and 170 pounds with short hair may have been involved. Goulet says some of the cars were broken into in a short period of time so some of the cases may be related.
If you know anything about what's happening, call Sangamon Menard County Crime Stoppers at 788-8427. Or text: Tip672 plus your information and send it to CRIMES. Or log on. You could get a cash reward.
