SPRINGFIELD -- Advocates have been fighting for years to get medical marijuana legalized here in Illinois, and now they may have another shot at making that happen. Lawmakers are expected to vote on a bill allowing doctors to prescribe it and patients to take it.

It sounds pretty basic, but there are some tough restrictions. They'd only be allowed to buy it at non-profit dispensaries. If passed, the pilot program would expire after three years.

Supporters say it will help people battling all kinds of pain and keep them from becoming dependent on painkillers and other medications. Critics argue marijuana is still a drug and worry it could become addictive and lead to abuse.
