VILLA GROVE -- A school district is turning to its community to help fund classrooms. The Villa Grove school board is starting an Education Foundation.

The group will organize fundraisers and apply for grants. Board members say they're trying to be pro-active since state funding continues to drop.

Phillip Jones is in charge of the foundation. His family has been in town for six generations, and he can't wait to give back to his district.

"Hopefully this foundation becomes something great that can really help supplement the school's income. And I'm really glad to be asked to be a part of it and glad to help and put all my time and energy that I can into this," he said.

Jones says of one of the first projects would be to build a brick courtyard. That way, alumni can buy spots to help the foundation. The money would go towards new technology for classrooms and more.
