CHAMPAIGN -- The Daily Bread Soup Kitchen is making sure adults aren't forgotten this holiday season. It's been collecting new backpacks and donations to fill those packs.

"Christmas is really for children," said Volunteer Karen Pickard. "But what happens to those moms and dads who have been bending over backwards trying to make a good holiday for their kids?"

And that's who these packs are geared towards. Volunteers at Daily Bread are looking for things like warm clothes, toiletries and portable snacks, like granola bars or nuts.

Pickard has been volunteering at the soup kitchen for the last several months. She says the men and women who receive those packs are so thankful.

"They don't even open it to see what's inside," said Pickard. "They're just so happy to get them. They put it on and go home."

Daily Bread says it's looking for the following donations:
- shampoo
- deodorant
- toothpaste/toothbrushes
- scarves
- socks
- hats
- gloves
- thermal underwear
- granola or cereal bars

The project started in winter 2008. That first year, Daily Bread collected around 200 backpacks to pass out. Donations have grown in the following years. Last year, volunteers were able to distribute around 800 packs. This year, they hope to reach the 1,000 mark.

Donations can be dropped off at:
