DECATUR -- A homeless shelter celebrates a milestone and its success in the community. Decatur Family Refuge just paid off its mortgage.

That means more money will go to the people who really need it. It's not just a place to sleep, though. The program helps with schooling, jobs and parenting.

It's helped place more than 30 families struggling to get back on their feet. People say those success stories give them hope.

The shelter says each family stays about six months. There are currently 50 families still on the waiting list.
