A 14 month old Mahomet girl has been fighting for her life since the day she was born.

Now, she's getting ready for a big surgery.

Her outlook isn't good, but her family hopes this will give her a longer life.

An oxygen tank is little Elizabeth Roy's lifeline.

It helps her breathe.

That's not easy for Elizabeth, and her life hasn't been easy either.

She was born four months premature.

"About 2 months after we were home, we saw one of her doctors to develop a plan to come off of the oxygen, and they did a procedure and said 'Ok, you have to go to St. Louis because she has these growths in her throat around her vocal cords'. At that point it was basically cutting off her airway," Elizabeth's mom, Heather Roy explains.

When the Roys made that trip, they found out it was actually a virus in her voice box.

Elizabeth would need surgery every three weeks to clear her airways.

On top of that, she has a chronic lung disease from being born so early.

During her time in the hospital, Elizabeth had a few struggles in the operating room.

"Before they decided to do another surgery  they thought, ok we're going to take a little closer look at her heart and when they did, essentially they found out that her heart was not in the greatest shape and basically told us she has a couple of months to two years to live," Roy explains.

The Roys have spent Elizabeth's life traveling to and from the hospital, trying to buy their daughter time.

"The more the disease progresses, that's essentially it for her," Roy says.

The Roys hope Elizabeth's upcoming heart surgery gives them more days at home, more smiles, and more chances to be a family.

Elizabeth's surgery is on Tuesday.

This weekend, you have the chance to help her and her family at a benefit.
