CHAMPAIGN -- Between Black Friday and holiday travel, the highways and local streets were pretty packed. Signs were posted on I-74 westbound near Neil and Prospect exits warning drivers to watch their speed and keep an eye on traffic.

It worked. Drivers say other than the huge drop in temperature, traveling was a breeze.

"It's been easy-going the whole way. We went to Springfield for Thanksgiving. Just coming right back here the whole way," Jacob White said.

"It's been absolutely no problem at all. I've had the cruise control on basically from Peoria to here. No problems whatsoever coming or going," Jim Williams said.

More than 40 million people are out traveling this week. 90% of them are on the highway.
