CHAMPAIGN -- Violence has taken over a neighborhood. Now people are praying for a big change.

There have been seven shootings, just in the past month. Now police are reaching out for help.

"I cried," Barbara Thomas said.

Thomas was at home when she heard gunshots. She went outside and found bullet holes all over.

"I've never experienced that before. Ever. In my life," Thomas said.

That same day another shooting happened on Carver Street.

Days earlier a man was shot at on East Church Street. On the same day, 2 other shootings.

It doesn't end there. Shots were fired on Third Street last month and on Fourth Street just a few days ago.

It's a lot to take in for Everett Barnerd.

"Every now and then things happen, but things happen everywhere." Barnerd said.

He says he's standing by his neighborhood. Barnerd has lived there since 1995. He hopes all of the violence catches the attention of police and they come around more often.

"Sometimes I feel neglected by them." Barnerd said.

Police have been thoroughly investigating these neighborhoods and made a few arrests. But most of the people who live in these neighborhoods agree. The change has to happen and the violence has to stop.

Police are still investigating all of these shootings. If you know anything about these incidents, call Crime Stoppers at 373-TIPS. You can remain completely anonymous and help to keep neighborhoods a little safer.
