Still waiting for FOID card renewal
Updated: November 26, 2012
On the state's website, it says you should hear back within 30 days of receiving your application. But some people have been waiting a lot longer than that.
"They're making a criminal out of me," said Brian Henry.
Henry said he hasn't done anything wrong. He said he sent his FOID card renewal in August.
"I still don't have it," said Henry. "Two and a half weeks ago, I had a state police officer run my card to see if it's been processed yet and I just haven't received it. It hasn't even been processed yet."
To add insult to injury, Henry said no one from the Illinois State Police will return his calls or emails.
"I don't know where the problem is but I can't get a hold of anybody to tell me what to do," said Henry.
He's been hunting since he was a child but now he technically can't shoot a gun, buy ammunition or even have a firearm in his car. Henry said he was able to talk with his state representative, Chad Hays. Hays said his office has taken complaints about FOID card renewals. He said the state has processed more than 278,000 FOID applications so far this year. But Henry said that's no excuse.
"I did my part as a law-abiding citizen to stay legal," said Henry. "Now do your part."
A spokesperson from the state police patrol division said FOID employees are working as quickly as they can and people just need to be patient.
