CHAMPAIGN -- A local school is honored for its innovative architecture. The state's School Board Association gave Carrie Busey Elementary the "Award of Distinction."

It's the top honor for school design in the state. School leaders say they created flexible spaces for students to learn and used recycled materials for renovations.

They also use sunlight to help power some classes including the art room. Leaders say it helps save taxpayers money by keeping costs down. They hope to use similar designs for other Unit 4 remodeling projects.
