CHAMPAIGN -- A group of people who headed east to help in the aftermath of Super Storm Sandy says training was immensely helpful and was put to good use. Eight volunteers from Central Illinois spent two weeks working with crews from across the country.

The group is part of the state's Incident Management Team.

Illinois IMT took care of logistics - making sure food, water and generators got to where they needed to be. They worked 12 hour days and slept in dorms, just to make sure those who needed help got it. Those who went say the places near water had the most extensive damage. Homes, buildings, essentially everything was wiped out.

The crew said the hardest part wasn't the work; it was when they had to pack up and come home.

Members calls the experience a "tough, but rewarding" one.
