Two robberies near UI campus

CHAMPAIGN -- Some students are shaken up after a pair of armed robberies near the University of Illinois campus. Both incidents happened around 2 am Saturday.

The first was on Healey Street and the other happened on Clark Street. In both instances, police said a man had a gun and took money or belongings from people.

One student who lives nearby said the situation made her feel uncomfortable. Others said people just need to be a little more careful. Police are investigating both of these incidents.

CHAMPAIGN -- Police are looking into two overnight robberies near the UI campus. The first happened around 2:00 am on the 400 block of East Healey Street. Police say two victims were walking when a suspect came up behind them.

He demanded money and their phones, then took off running with their stuff. The victims say he had a black handgun.

20 minutes later, another robbery happened nearby on the 600 block of East Clark Street. The suspect again snuck up on two victims, ordered them to the ground, and told them to empty their pockets.

He got their belongings then ran off. The two say he also had a black gun.

Both sets of victims say the suspect was a black man, about 5'4"- 5'7" tall. Both say he was wearing dark clothes with a bandana or scarf over his face.
