Lawmaker limits?

SPRINGFIELD -- Some lawmakers want to put limits on how long party leaders can serve in the Capitol. They are calling for officers, like the Speaker and Senate President, to only be allowed the top spot four years in a row.

If a person reaches that limit, he or she would have to wait another four years before becoming leader again. Right now, Michael Madigan is in his 27th year as speaker.

A similar proposal is up in the House. It would cap leaders at 14 years of total service.
