Local businesses help make history for two cities

CHAMPAIGN -- Two cities are making history. For the first time ever, local businesses in Champaign and Urbana sold more than $1 billion in exports. 

Gill Athletics, Kraft and Hobbico are just some of the businesses which are getting the cities recognized by the Department of Commerce. Mayor Don Gerard received a letter from the department stating our $1 billion milestone is helping provide millions of jobs across the U.S. Gerard says it's just one of the reasons Champaign's economy is one of the best in Illinois.

The Department of Commerce says last year's exports increase helped support almost 10 million jobs. It's something President Obama is pushing. His goal is to double U.S. exports by 2014.
