CHAMPAIGN -- It's a celebration to jump-start a tradition that's been around for decades. Friday was the Salvation Army's "Red Kettle Kick-Off."

You'll now hear the sounds of bells wherever you shop, all to raise money for a great cause. It's a big day for the Salvation Army.

All of this is about so much more than the bells or the kettles. All of it signifies thousands of people who will have a much happier Christmas.

All the money raised here will help. Your spare change will help 48 people have a roof over their heads at the shelter and more than 2,500 kids get presents Christmas morning.

That's not all. You can find 28 kettles in 22 locations around the county. This year, organizers hop to raise more than $450,000 by Christmas Eve.
