Student's jaw punched out of place

URBANA -- A mom is speaking up for her daughter. Her 13-year-old's jaw was punched out of place. She's scared it'll happen again, and says she won't stop calling the school district until something's done.

It happened Wednesday afternoon at Urbana Middle School. She told us her 8th-grader was walking down the hallway when a girl came up from behind, put her in a choke-hold and hit her in the face three times.

"It was one of the most terrifying phone calls I've ever had in my life," Marlena Lohrbach said.

It was the assistant principal. He told Lohrbach her daughter, Adrianna, had been in a fight. She wanted to talk to her mom.

"I get on the phone, she's crying, hyperventilating. I can't understand anything she's saying. So I told her I'm on my way," Lohrbach said.

When Lohrback got there, Adrianna's face was puffy and her jaw was dislocated. Lohrbach rushed to her to convenient care and they told her exactly what she didn't want to hear.

"You're gonna have to go to the E.R."

Doctors popped her jaw back into place, but she can't talk much or chew because it could dislocate at anytime.

"It's hard. It's hard to watch. She's in pain and there's nothing I can do about it," Lohrbach said.

Everything was caught on tape. But the district won't let anyone watch it because of confidentiality policies.

"I feel like they're giving me the constant run around. I feel like I won't have justice for my child."

The superintendent won't discuss the matter citing student confidentiality.

"I don't know what my next step is. No one can give me any answers."

Lohrbach says the girl who attacked her daughter had been bullying her for more than a year.

"School should be a place where your children go and you shouldn't have to worry about this."

This is sad. The real thing that the mother is not telling the press is that her daughter has had issues herself. As a parent of a child at the Urbana Middle School I would like to say that it is a safe place. second I know of at least three girls that this so called victim has bothered and bullied. My daughter included. I can tell you from talking to kids that witnessed the so called attack said that your daughter was having words with the mixed girl that hit her.. Fighting cures nothing. but to go to the TV and telling some half cocked story about your pour daughter and leaving out that your poor daughter brought this on herself is kind of sad on your part and comical to the parents that know the truth

As sad as it is, I agree Urbana Middle School staff does sweep things like this under the rug. I have 2 kids in 6th grade and have made SEVERAL complaints against the school. Each time I left the school,I felt as though nothing had been resolved or even addressed. My son (who is 11) was denied access to use the phone after missing the bus and was locked out of the school. when the office receptionist passed the door she shook her head "no" at him and left him standing outside....alone. I was unaware he had missed the bus until my daughter came through the door (at 420pm mind you) informing me he wasn't on the bus. I called the school, no answer. Offices close AT 4pm on fridays, but my children don't get home til after 4 so how does this schedule benefit the best interest of our kids??? His teacher, on her way to her car leaving for the day, allowed him to use her personal cellphone. I picked my son up from in front of the school at 430, with only 3 cars left in the parking lot and not ONE teacher in sight making sure he left safely. That's just ONE inncident. There's a [censored] Math teacher who taught my daughter a lesson about being a victim of racism! Still waiting for the names of the other teachers that can verify HER story. She made sure to note they were present for the altercation but even quicker to cover her story and inform me that "they may not have heard the conversation between her and my daughter"...so why bring them up if they can't REALLY verify your actions????? This school DEFINITELY needs to be evaluated...staff, administrators as well as their policies. Absolutely RIDICULOUS!

People need to check there facts before they let a vindictive mother get on TV to bad mouth a 13 year old girl that her daughter has been bullying for 3 years. I do not justify the other girls action but people should know she is not a bully but someone who finally stood up for herself even if it was not in the best way. The "victim's" mother is just mad that the school won't tell her anything. That's because the school has seen the video and know what really happened. There have been numerous complaints against the "victim" and nothing has been done. I am sorry that someone got hurt. But people need to realize she is not an innocent victim, nor is she the one being bullied.
