SPRINGFIELD -- New details are emerging about a high school teacher accused of having sex with a student. Jennifer Tyree is charged with criminal sexual assault. She's on paid administrative leave from Lanphier High School. WCIA-3's Ashley Michels has the latest.

Parents had the same reaction of shock at the news about accusations Tyree had a sexual relationship with a student. They all said they're glad she's out of the classroom and in jail.

"I'm surprised, very surprised that any teacher would do that, let alone being a teacher here at Lanphier."

The English teacher is accused of carrying on an intimate relationship with a 17-year old boy.

"I was kind of surprised."

"Very insecure, very worried. I'm concerned."

According to police, it all started about six weeks ago. That's when the victim's mother says Tyree asked to be the boy's mentor.

Police reports say she would tutor him and take him out to the movies, but would always let the victim's mother know in advance. Tyree's husband went to police when he caught the two fondling each other, adding they even got a hotel room together in September.

"You never know when something can happen to them."

Parents say they never thought this was something that would happen here.

"I'm leery about her going here, but things do happen, I know."

District leaders say they're taking the matter very seriously and are meeting Friday to decide if Tyree will keep her job.
