CHAMPAIGN -- Keeping kids safe is important to Crisis Nursery. That's why when it got a $53,000 state grant, most of that money went toward security upgrades. Items like more lights and a privacy fence.

"We use to have a chain link fence so anybody who drives by could see the children playing," said Executive Director Stephanie Record. "If we had children involved in domestic violence cases, they wouldn't be able to go outside."

Another part of the system is security cameras. There are now 19 cameras in all. And, with reports of car burglaries in the same neighborhood, managers say preparation is key.

"We really wanted to be proactive before anything happened," said Record.
