Christmas tree taking shape downtown

CHAMPAIGN -- It's beginning to look a little like Christmas downtown. That's because workers started putting up the Christmas tree on the corner of Neil and Main streets.

They spent most of the day working on the metal structure and starting on some branches. It'll take a few days to get the entire tree up and decorated. Organizers said it'll help set the mood for the holiday season.

Workers said they have to do a lot of the same things you might do as you put up your tree. That includes checking more than a thousand bulbs and fixing the ones that were burned out. They still have a few more lights and ornaments to put up.
