URBANA -- Boneyard Creek has been years in the making. Wednesday was a big day as city leaders broke ground.

The final price tag on the project is $7.5 million. Last month, officials had to make a number of cuts to get there. They've let go of things like fancy fencing and extra landscaping. But, engineers say they've managed to keep the overall "feel" of the project.

The idea is to make the area more welcoming. Leaders hope Boneyard will help bring more people downtown. They say you can expect to see some demolition and clearing this week.

The majority of construction starts in the spring. Officials hope to have it complete by the summer of 2014. The deadline was pushed back because of all the changes and cuts.
