SPRINGFIELD -- The state is honoring purple heart recipients with a monument. It will sit with the other war memorials at Oak Ridge Cemetery. That's where Abraham Lincoln is buried.

The Illinois Historical Preservation Agency and the Springfield Chapter of the Military Order of the Purple Heart are teaming up to make it happen. On Veterans Day, both organizations came together to sign a memorandum.

Now they'll be able to start fundraising efforts. How much the project will cost is unclear, but it's expected to be finished in about a year or so.
