SAVOY -- People around the country honored veterans Monday. Many stopped to thank them for their service at a ceremony held then since the holiday fell on a weekend. Troop 13 helped with the ceremony, posting colors before it started and playing Taps afterward.

People gave special tribute to veterans from the area. One of those who spoke was Congressman-elect Rodney Davis. This was his first public appearance since Dr. David Gill conceded last week.

Davis told vets how grateful he and everyone else in his district are for their service. He said we'll be forever indebted for the work they've done both in the U.S. and overseas.

He heads to Washington D.C. later this month to get ready for his term. Davis says he's proud to represent Central Illinois.

Outside of working with people from both sides of the aisle, Davis says he plans to take his Midwest values with him to Washington. Davis says his family plans to stay in Christian County, where his children go to school. He says that will help hims stay in touch with the things which are important to people here.
