MATTOON -- A local veteran is getting a new lease on life thanks to a WCIA-3 News viewer. James Alexander was denied a wheelchair through the VA's office.

David Martin saw the story and decided to help. He donated his late mother's electric wheelchair.

She passed away about ten years ago. Martin presented the new chair to Alexander on Veterans Day.

Alexander says he was beyond disbelief and thankful for the surprise. He says his old chair was falling apart and desperately needed to be replaced.

Martin has another wheelchair and scooter he'd like to give to vets in need. If you know someone, call our newsroom at (217) 373 - 3650.

My father is been wanting a scouter so he can get to the Church, Post Officer and Bank since he quit driving a year ago. He is 94 and a WW II vet. His legs don't always let him walk that far. Thanks for your consideration Dennis Luhrsen Buckley
