CHAMPAIGN -- After days of refusing to concede, David Gill brings his campaign to a close. Now the republican party is ready to send its candidate to Washington.

Gill wanted time to recount ballots, but this caused a lot of confusion for voters. If you remember on election night, Davis gave his acceptance speech and Gill went on record saying Davis was not the winner. There's been a lot of back and forth in this race.

Gill's team spent days analyzing outstanding and absentee ballots, all because this race was neck-and-neck with Davis winning by less than a percentage point.

But Gill issued a statement Friday stating he did not win the election. Now the republican party says the work can begin.

"I think there's a feeling of comfort and knowing the outcome of the election. Washington, D.C. has a number of issues that impact residents here in the district on a day-to-day basis. I think knowing who your representative is gonna be and allowing them to get to work is comforting," said vice chairperson Kristin Williamson.

Davis is moving forward and will attend a new member orientation in the coming weeks.
