MAHOMET -- A second grader is okay after a field trip mishap. It happened at Lake of the Woods Wednesday. The girl was walking with her class when she fell into a manhole.

The student was walking over a plastic manhole cover when it gave way. The superintendent says no one was aware that it wasn't secure, but when she fell, people quickly came to her rescue. The teacher and a chaperone were just inches from her and within a matter of second they pulled her out.

She was back to school by the end of the day and the superintendent say he's proud of the way everyone handled the situation. Personnel at Lake of the Woods had no comment.
