UI workers picket over pay problems
Updated: November 8, 2012
SEIU represents 700 workers on campus. Union leaders say the UI is asking for too many concessions, so they're sending a message. Workers expect better pay and it's one of the biggest stumbling blocks to an agreement.
Union leaders want people to know exactly what members have been asked to give up. They say members have been asked to switch to a new wage system making it harder to get raises.
They add the University is also trying to take away holiday pay for five holidays including Christmas and Thanksgiving. SEIU says it's been negotiating since May.
Leaders still hope to reach an agreement and say their requests are not unreasonable. WCIA-3 News has not heard back from University representatives.
