CHAMPAIGN -- Barack Obama wasn't the only person elected president Tuesday. The Champaign County Humane Society also has a new leader.

Gizmo the cat was voted into office. He edged out Ruby the beagle thanks to votes from the public and staff.

The campaign was between the canine and feline parties. It was meant to bring awareness to homeless pets.

The Humane Society is offering a discount on adoption fees for those who voted with an "I voted" sticker, or for anyone who mentions this story. The discount is valid through Friday.

If you would like to adopt a pet, learn more here.
