DANVILLE -- Voters also had a say in the future of the Vermilion County Nursing Home. The county can now sell Vermilion Manor if it needs to. WCIA-3's Jessica Shaw finds out what it means for those who live there.

Leaders of the nursing home say, right now their number one priority is the residents. Every day for the past six years, Ward Williams stops by to see his wife.

"This place takes excellent care of us."

Care that Vermilion Manor says will continue no matter what.

"The residents are reassured, they're here to stay, no matter who owns the place."

For awhile, families and workers didn't know what was in their futures. 70% of residents are on Medicaid.

Late payments from the state left the place struggling. No one knew what another owner would mean.

"We were just worried. They didn't know if they'd have a home."

Board members say selling it could be a chance to save the home.

"We realize the economy isn't realistic for a county nursing home anymore."

"It's on a positive note. Like I said, change is good and we're welcoming it."

County board members say now that they have the authority, they'll start talking to private firms which have expressed interest in the past.
