Expelled lawmaker re-elected

CHICAGO -- Despite facing bribery charges and being expelled from the Illinois House, a former lawmaker won his seat back. Derrick Smith defeated Lance Tyson to represent the 104th District.

Smith won the democratic primary in March, just days after his arrest. He was indicted for taking a bribe in exchange for supporting a state grant.

The state constitution does not allow a lawmaker to be expelled twice for the same legal action, but Smith could still lose his seat if he's convicted.
