CHAMPAIGN -- Bottenfield Elementary third graders had the opportunity to get a taste of the political process. Students held a mock election which gave them a chance to practice voting as if they were 18-years old.

Their results mirror real life with 239 votes for President Barack Obama and 163 votes for Governor Mitt Romney. Students learned about the election process and heard each candidate's positions.

Every student participated from decorating ballot boxes to discussing the pros-and-cons of each candidate. Students seemed very interested in their policies on education. The "voters" then formed their own opinions on who would make the perfect candidate.

CHAMPAIGN -- Schools around the area held mock elections, but it was some Kids to Know who organized everything at Bottenfield Elementary. A group of about 40 third graders put together an election, cutting out ballots and turning the library into a polling place.

They put up and decorated booths and registered friends to vote. Most of the students gave up their lunch and recess to put it together. The school reveals its results Wednesday afternoon.
