Deadly crash still on the minds of friends and family

NEOGA -- An accident that happened in Cumberland County is still on the minds of people. Cliff Denson was killed more than two years ago on Interstate 70. He was a union laborer contracted to do roadwork when a semi-truck driver hit him.

That driver was Henry Bohn. Bohn pleaded guilty to misdemeanor reckless driving last week. He'll have to pay a $350 fine and will lose his truck driver's license but there isn't any jail time.

That's not something the victim's family was expecting to hear. Chantel Jenner, Cliff's daughter, is upset about the plea agreement. She says he was cleaning up a construction site when he was hit. So Jenner thought, "hit a worker, pay a $10,000 fine." State law says a construction site has to be marked by signs in order to be one and that wasn't the case for this accident. Jenner doesn't agree.

The State's Attorney says state police investigated the accident. They found the truck driver wasn't speeding and there was no alcohol or drugs in his system. It says the crash was caused by the truck driver not being able to control his truck.

The Denson Family can now sue the driver in a civil suit. They say they haven't talk about it.

Comments

I personally live in Cumberland county and understand the frustration this family is feeling at our 'elected official' not doing his job. As Ms. Jenner has posted online, the States Attorney Barry Shaffer lied to her and her family in telling them he would take this case to trial. After telling them this he offered a plea bargain. If anyone checks his record he doesn't fight for our county, he offers pleas to the criminals and lets them off with a slap on the hand. That is why in Cumberland county we still have people driving on the roads with 5 or 6 DUI convictions, drug dealers holding poltical offices and police who wonder daily "what's the point". Today as I vote my campaign is "anybody but Shaffer"!!
