Concealed carry talks continue

SPRINGFIELD -- Should concealed carry be legal here in Illinois? It's a question some voters might see on their ballots this Tuesday.

It's the only state in the country banning it. Gun advocates have tried for years to change that, but they've never succeeded. Even so, they're not giving up. Instead of going to lawmakers directly, they're going to the polls.

Voters in nine counties can expect to see that question on their ballot. Whether they choose yes or no doesn't really matter. That's because state law trumps any local law.

But, advocates say that's not the point. They hope it shows state leaders how many people support it.

Governor Quinn is against concealed carry. He recently pushed for a ban on assault weapons.

Supporters say guns are too dangerous and cause more crime. Gun advocates disagree and argue they're actually safer. They say if someone wants to go out and hurt a person, they're going to, no matter what.
