CHAMPAIGN -- Two people were arrested after a man fired a shot at his roommate. It happened on 100-block E. John Street around 1:30 Sunday morning.

Authorities said 22-year-old Daniel Chang came home from a bar and got in a physical fight with his roommate, 22-year-old David Lu. Police said during that incident, Chang fired a single shot at Lu through his bedroom door. Lu was not hurt and left the apartment to call police.

The SWAT team helped officers search for Chang, who they found sleeping in his apartment. Police said they found a gun and knife at the same location. Chang was arrested for unlawful use of a weapon and aggravated discharge of a firearm.

Police said they interviewed Lu in the back seat of one of their squad cars. During the interview, authorities said Lu began ripping up flooring and the seats inside the car. Lu was arrested for criminal damage to property.

Investigators believe both men were under the influence of alcohol, which may have contributed to the situation. No one was seriously injured.

While the SWAT team searched Chang's apartment, people who live nearby were evacuated as a safety precaution. MTD buses were called to the scene so the neighbors could wait somewhere warm.
