November started off a bit on the chilly side, but warmer than the days before that.  Highs on the 1st, which was a Thursday, were in the middle to upper 50s.  The second was a bit of a cooler day, but still had plenty of sunshine.   The 3rd was the first Saturday of the month and brough a few rain showers and cooler temperatures as highs were only in the upper 40s.  We'd dry out for Sunday and bounce back into the lower 50s.

Monday also had a few showers, but was mostly dry and chilly.  Election day had a sunny start with showers at the end of the day and highs only around 50.  Another 50 degree day took place on Wednesday with plenty of clouds and then the warm-up was on.

The middle 50s were in store for Thursday and lower 60s for Friday.  As if that wasn't enough, the weekend had temperatures in the upper 60s and lower 70s.  The warm weather would come crashing down on the evening of Sunday, which was the 11th day of the month.

A heavy round of showers and thunderstorms moved through Sunday night and by the morning of the 12, Monday, temperatures were quickly falling throughout the day.  Highs on Monday were only in the middle 40s and those highs were at midnight. We were stuck in the 40s for Tuesday and Wednesday as well with very calm weather which would stick around through the weekend.

Monday, the 19th, was the start of Thanksgiving week and it got off to a warm start.  Highs on Monday were in the upper 50s despite some cloud cover.  Tuesday would continue the warming trend with some lower 60s and still plenty of cloud cover. We did have to fight through a foggy morning on Wednesday with highs on Wednesday afternoon reaching into the 60s with plenty of sunshine.

Thanksgiving was also very sunny with morning fog, but the wind was very strong as a strong cold front approached.  Highs still reached into the lower 60s for the day.  Showers and thunderstorms arrived around 4PM with the front and began a major cool-down.

Black Friday brought us temperatures only in the 30s and another breezy day. Through the weekend, we had calm, but chilly weather. Monday, the 26th actually brought us a few snowflakes, but no accumulation was noted.  Tuesday the 27th was sunny, but cold with highs only in the middle 30s.

We went back to a calm and warming pattern starting on the 28th, which was a Wednesday.  As we got to the weekend we reached back to nearly 50 and continued the warm-up into December with some lower 60s on the 30th, which was a Friday.

We will add more information to this article as we get more information on final November 2012 numbers.

State
Illinois finished with temperatures being below normal along with precipitation below normal.  The statewide average temperature was 40.8 degrees, which is 1.1 degrees below normal.  Also, the precipitation average was 1.26", which is 2.21" below normal.

This wrapped up a January through November period that only had an average of 27.6" of precipitation, which is nearly 10 inches below the normal 37.5". Also, we're on pace to have the 2nd warmest year on record as January to November had an average temperature of 57.3 degrees. That's 3.1 degrees above normal and 2nd only to the 57.6 degrees set in 1921.

Global Numbers
The globe recorded the 5th warmest November on record, making the 333rd straight month with above average temperatures and 36th consecutive November.  The average temperature average was 56.41 degrees, which is 1.21 degrees above the 20th century average.

Arctic sea ice continued to expand during November, but remained 12% below average.  It was the third smallest November Arctic sea ice extent on record.

If our current pace continues, we'll have the 8th warmest year on record.  We're currently 1.06 degrees above average.
